America’s Promise Alliance is the nation’s largest partnership dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth. It brings together hundreds of national organizations representing nonprofits, businesses, communities, educators and policymakers. The Alliance was born from The Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future held in Philadelphia in April 1997. The event was attended by Presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter and Ford (with Nancy Reagan representing President Reagan), and chaired by Retired General Colin Powell and the Alliance challenged America to make children and youth a top national priority.
The key objectives in re-designing the America’s Promise site were to communicate and raise awareness of the APA mission, namely the 5 Promises; to publicize solutions for implementing the promises to different demographics; and to promote and strengthen partnerships.
The design direction grew out of the need to highlight the distinctions between the various programs and their connection to the 5 Promises. Similarly, we didn’t want the featured 5 Promises to become a barrier to accessing the other content on the site, and yet we wanted to make it evident that the Promises are the cornerstone of the organization’s cause. The site was designed in conjunction with EchoDitto, a web development and strategic partner.
